The United States reduced its roster to 13 players Sunday, cutting Jeff Green and JaVale McGee. USA Basketball made the moves before it beat France 86-55 in an warm-up game at Madison Square Garden. Cutting McGee leaves Tyson Chandler as the only true center on the American roster. Neither Green nor McGee played in the U.S.

Chris Paul is staying put with the New Orleans Hornets — at least for now. The Hornets’ star guard did not request a trade Monday in his meeting with new coach Monty Williams and top team officials, general manager Dell Demps said. Dirk Nowitzki is sticking with the Dallas Mavericks. Next question: Will he and Jason Kidd be able to lure anyone to join them? Nowitzki’s adviser, Holger Geschwindner, told The Associated Press late Saturday night that Nowitzki and Mavs owner Mark Cuban have agreed “to get it done.” Teams and free agents can strike deals at any time, but can’t sign them until Thursday.

The Boston Celtics have agreed to terms with captain Paul Pierce on a deal that could keep the MVP of their 2008 title run with the team for another four seasons. The contract was not announced, but it was confirmed to The Associated Press by a Celtics official familiar with the deal who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the free agent signing period does not begin until Thursday.

Boston Celtics big men Kevin Garnett and Kendrick Perkins skipped practice with injuries Wednesday, but coach Doc Rivers said he expects both to play in Game 3 against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Celtics spokesman Jeff Twiss said Garnett has a mild strain in the middle of his right foot and Perkins has a hyperextended right knee.

The Utah Jazz say Carlos Boozer will be a game-time decision in Saturday’s playoff opener at Denver. Boozer has a strained muscle in his rib cage and did not play Wednesday when the Jazz closed out the regular season with a loss to the Phoenix Suns. Coach Jerry Sloan said before practice Friday that the Jazz hoped Boozer would be ready to play in Denver, but his status is still uncertain.

San Antonio Spurs guard Tony Parker has been cleared to play after missing the past month with a broken hand. The Spurs said Parker will be in uniform Tuesday night at Sacramento. He has not played since breaking his shooting hand March 6 in a win at Memphis. Parker’s return comes after backup point guard George Hill sprained his right ankle Sunday in a win over the Los Angeles Lakers.

A day after Gilbert Arenas was sentenced to 30 days in a halfway house for bringing guns into the Washington Wizards’ locker room, team president Ernie Grunfeld reaffirmed that Arenas will be back with the club next season. “We’re not going to void his contract. As I’ve said all along, he’s going to be with us,” Grunfeld said Saturday night before a game against Utah.

Mike Dunleavy and the Los Angeles Clippers parted company for good Tuesday, barely a month after he relinquished his head coaching duties to focus solely on being general manager. Now that arrangement is over, with the team announcing his departure in an e-mailed statement. Assistant general manager Neil Olshey will take over Dunleavy’s job.
